MAGAZINE  DESIGN

The layout of a magazine or publication is extremely important, not just for the publisher but for the consumer. It enables the readers to easily orientate large amounts of information contained in the publication by finding constant, characteristic elements. Getting a message easily communicated in an instant is the key to grabbing the viewer out of their environment and guiding them into another world. Having an empathetic designer is important for the publisher to feel confident in getting their message across. A picture is worth a thousand words and the emotion of engaging content is necessary for a successful product.

Layout Design: Portraitry & Flora Fusion

Client: Photographer Colette D.

For this magazine spread, I had the opportunity to design a feature for photographer Colette D., showcasing her latest collection Portraitry & Flora Fusion. From the outset, I knew that the layout needed to reflect her bold, high-contrast photography and modern artistic voice.

I chose a modular grid structure for its clean and minimal aesthetic. Colette’s work has an edgy, contemporary feel, so I intentionally stayed away from traditional, classical grids. The modular approach gave me the flexibility to balance strong visual impact with clarity, allowing her images to speak loudly while still guiding the viewer through the content.

Ultimately, the goal was to deliver a layout that feels both modern and purposeful, presenting her work in a way that is direct, engaging, and aligned with her visual identity. When the target audience encounters this piece, they’re met with a straightforward yet powerful presentation that celebrates both form and function.

Article Design: Inclusion Through Diversity Through an Art Conversation

Museum Exhibit Editorial Layout
Client: Metromoheim Museum - West Wing Gallery

For this editorial spread, I was tasked with designing a print feature to highlight three artists and a curated selection of their work. The article was meant to introduce each artist visually and narratively while offering context for the broader exhibit themes.

One of the main challenges was fitting a large amount of content into a limited page count. I approached this by prioritizing clarity and spacing, using a classic Z-pattern layout to guide the reader's eye naturally across each page. This helped create a smooth flow from headlines to visuals and body copy.

To support readability and maintain visual appeal, I applied a modular grid system and incorporated generous white space. These choices ensured the layout felt balanced and uncluttered, even with dense information.

Design Elements:

  • Modular grid system for structured flexibility

  • Z-pattern flow for intuitive navigation

  • White space to enhance clarity and breathing room

  • Typographic hierarchy to organize content

  • Large-scale visuals to spotlight artistic detail

The final design is clean, modern, and thoughtfully composed—effectively showcasing each artist while keeping the content accessible and visually engaging.
