Information Architecture
is the practice of organizing, structuring, and labeling content clearly and logically so that users can easily find the information they need and navigate a website efficiently. It’s like creating a blueprint for the content and navigation systems that support a seamless user experience.

UpSkillet Redesign – Improving Navigation & User Engagement
UpSkillet is a recipe website that regularly publishes new content, but analytics revealed users rarely navigated beyond their landing page—impacting both SEO rankings and revenue. To address this, we redesigned the site’s information architecture through user-centered research, including a content audit, usability review, card sorting, and journey mapping. We applied key principles of information architecture—such as Choices, Disclosure, Front Doors, and Growth—to create a more intuitive and scalable navigation system.
The redesign process included a revised sitemap, reorganized categories, and updated navigation menus that aligned with user expectations. Notably, we restructured the recipe section to include subcategories like “Saved Recipes” and “Submit a Recipe,” and relocated “Cooking Tools” under “Shop” for better usability. Mobile and desktop wireframes were created to reflect these changes. The result is a clean, minimal, and intuitive navigation that helps users—like our persona Aya—quickly find and save recipes, enhancing overall user satisfaction and engagement.
